15 Facts you need to know about the Wimbledon Champion Garbiñe Muguruza.

The Wimbledon Women's finals did not live up to the expectations of the final as it was pretty one sided game. Spain's Garbiñe Muguruza outclassed the five time Wimbledon champion-Venus Williams with a bagel in the final set, Muguruza won the match 7-5,6-0.



Here are 15 facts you need to know about the champion. 


Holds dual citizenship


She started her training at the age of three.


    • She started very early at the age of three. She was then trained at an academy near Barcelona. 
    • Her first main draw appearance came in 2012. 
    • She was given a wildcard at Miami open. 
    • She went on to beat Vera Zvonareva, the world no.2 that time and Flavia Pennetta before losing to Agnieszka Radwanska. 

She defeated Serena Williams at the French Open not once but twice.




    • She defeated Serena in the second round of the 2014 French Open. 
    • She was only 20 years old back then.

She became the first Spanish woman since 1998 to win the French Open.



    • She was 22-year-old when she won the title.
    • It was Sanchez-Vicario who was the French open 19 years back.

First person to beat both the William sisters in the Grandslam finals.

    • She once asked her parents not to come to her matches. It happened during 2015 Wimbledon where she was on a winning streak and she doesn't want to change any routines. 
    • She got off the bed with the same leg, she brushed her teeth at the same time during the tournament since she didn't want to change anything.

She played tennis because of her brothers. 



    • Muguruza has two brothers- Igor and Asier.
    • They were her inspiration. Now, they gave up tennis and have traditional jobs.

    • During her tearful press conference, her coach Sam Sumyk described the crowd as pathetic.

She becomes the second player Spanish woman to win the Wimbledon.
