Here are the few sports updates that happened in this week. 




Boxing: 

Jeff Horn shocks his idol Manny Pacquiao to win Welterweight title in a controversial decision. 

Badminton:

Australian open super series: 

  1. MEN'S SINGLES: Kidambi Srikanth def Chen Long by 22-20,21-16. 
  2. WOMEN'S SINGLES: Nozomi Okuhara def Akane Yamaguchi by 21-12,21-23,21-17.
  3. WOMEN'S DOUBLES: Misaki/Ayaka def Kamilla/Christinna by 21-10,21-13.
  4. MEN'S DOUBLES: Kamura/Sonoda def Setiawan/Tan by 21-17, 21-19.
  5. MIXED DOUBLES: Zheng/Chen def Jordon/Susanto by 18-21,21-14,21-17.


Cricket (June 26-July 2): 

MEN:

Zimbabwe in Srilanka
  • Zimbabwe wins by 6 wickets.
Batting first, Srilanka scored 316/5 
With Kushal Mendis top scoring with 86. 
Chasing 317, 
Zimbabwe's Mire, Williams, Raza, and Waller made sure they win with 14 balls remaining.
Mire- 112, Raza-67*, Williams - 65 , Waller-40*
This is the highest successful chase in Srilanka, in 296 ODIs.
  • Srilanka wins by 7 wickets.
Batting first, Zimbabwe managed to score only 155 in 33.2 overs.
Mazakadza top scored with 41. 

Sandakan took 4 wickets, Wanidu Hasaranga De Silva took 3 wickets. 

Chasing 156,
Upul Tharanga's 75* drove Srilanka home comfortably. 
While Chatara took 2 wickets.

Both teams stand 1-1 with 3 more ODIs to go.  

India tour of West Indies
  • 3rd ODI: India wins by 93 runs.
Batting first, India scored 251/4 in 50 overs.
Rahane-72, Dhoni-78*, Jadhav-40*

Cummins took 2 wickets for Windies. 

Windies lost wickets at regular intervals and ended their innings for 158.
Mohammed top scored with 40.

Ashwin and Kuldeep took 3 wickets each while Pandya took two. 

  • 4th ODI:West Indies wins by 11 runs. 
Batting first, Windies scored 189/9. 
Hope and Lewis top scored with 35 runs each. 

Pandya and Umesh Yadav picked up 3 wickets each.

Chasing 190 to win, India collapsed at the right moment,ended their innings at 178.  
Rahane scored 60, Dhoni - 54.

Holder picks up 5 wickets, Joseph 2 wickets. 

India leads the 5 match series 2-1 with one ODI being washed out. 


Women's World Cup:

  • India vs Pakistan. 
India beats Pakistan by 95 runs. 
Batting first, India women struggled to score big. Managing to score only 169/9 which is India's lowest score against Pakistan. 

Punam Raut top scored with 47. 

Chasing 170 to win, Pakistan collapsed badly.

All the bowlers did their job especially, Ekta Bisht's second five-wicket haul which is also the best bowling figures for an Indian women bowler in WCs took the game away from Pakistan.

3 on 3 for India now and 10/10 against Pakistan. 

A special mention to Pakistan's fielding and bowling. They were at their best.

  • West Indies vs South Africa. 
SA wins by 10 wickets. 

Windies got out cheaply for one of the lowest total-48. 

Kapp- 4-14, Niekerk 4-0, Ismail 2-16. 

Chasing a small total, 
SA batters finished the match within 7 overs. 

Lee 29*(16), Wolvaardt 19*(22).

  • England vs Srilanka.
England wins by 7 wickets.

SL scored 204/8

Perera top scored with 46 runs. 
Marsh took 4 wickets.

Chasing the total, 
Knight's 82 and Taylor 's 74* made the chase possible.

  • Australia vs New Zealand
Batting first NZ scored 219/9
Bates and Perkins scored a Half-century each.
Schutt and Jonassen took 3 wickets each.

Chasing the total,
Perry's 71, Lanning's 48 made it possible.
Kerr and Peterson took two wickets each. 


India and Australia have won all their 3 matches. 

India- England, West Indies, Pakistan.

Australia- West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand. 

Since India has a high net run rate, tops the table. 


South Africa, England won two out of three. 

South Africa- Pakistan, West Indies (while the other match was abandoned due to rain)

England- Pakistan, Srilanka. 

South Africa stands 3rd with 5 points. 
England 4th. 

New Zealand comes at 5th with a win(Sri Lanka) and a point for no result against SA.

Srilanka, Pakistan, West Indies are yet to open their account. 


Tennis:

Aegon Championships: 

Singles- Lopez beats Cilic - 4-6,7-6,7-6.
Doubles-Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares beat Bennetau and Roger-Vasselin - 6-2,6-3


Halle Open: 

Singles- Roger Federer beats Alexander Zverev - 6-1 ,6-3.
Doubles- Kubot and Melo beats Alexander Zverev and Mischa Zverev - 5-7,6-3,10-8


Eastbourne Aegon tournament: 

Singles -Djokovic beats Monfils - 6-3,6-4.
Doubles- Bob & Mike Bryan beat Bopanna and Andre Se - 6-7,6-4,10-3

Antalya open:

Singles- Sugita beats Mannarino - 6-1, 7-6.
Doubles- Aisam Qureshi and Linderstedt beats Marach and Pavic 7-5,4-1(ret)



Wimbledon starts on July 3rd.

Federer(3) and Djokovic(2) on the bottom half while Nadal(4) and Murray(1) on the top half.
